Inspiration from Grouse Mountain – by Lesley Apelbaum

Last week I went to Vancouver for my cousin’s wedding. It was incredible. I got the chance to reconnect with family, some I hadn’t seen in 13 years! The wedding was on top of Grouse Mountain, with the most stunning views of the Vancouver cityscape – perfect backdrop for family photos.

Two weeks before the wedding, my aunt passed away. This is my cousin’s grandmother who lived in Victoria, BC. I didn’t know her very well, but from our few brief phone calls and visits I could tell she was a wonderful woman, kind, generous, loving and strong. As you could imagine, her passing has been very difficult for the whole family and the timing makes it even harder. As we celebrate a new dream beginning, another one comes to an end.
As I look out from the top of Grouse Mountain, I see people hiking, paragliding, playing music and taking pictures. People young and old embracing the opportunities of this majestic mountain. With the Vancouver cityscape laid out in front of me, being here reminds me it’s never too late to pursue our dreams and ambitions. They are possible, anytime, anyplace!
